Lobo TAFE Advances Members to State

A pair of Lehman High School teams from its Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) organization have earned the right to compete at the TAFE State Meet at Texas Tech University in February. The state meet-qualifying honor came through winning efforts at the recent TAFE Region 13 competition. Sarah Gonzales and Lexie Celis teamed for a first place in the Classroom Role Play competition and Meghan Blaha won first in Lesson Planning and Delivery--CTE. Lehman's state-qualifying entries were the only such honorees from Hays County districts.

Sarah's and Lexie's competition gives competitors 30 minutes to prepare a lesson on the spot, their assignment being a 4th-Grade English classroom. They were given a box with limited supplies to help create the lesson and they ultimately played the 15-minute lesson to the judges. In Meghan's event, competitors had to teach (and record) a Child Development TEK to an actual child development classroom, present the video to the judges, then answer their questions about it.

The full Lehman contingent, coached by Sponsor Betsy Davis Slemmons, included (lead photo, back row) Claudia Loera, Miriam Fernandez, Leuntta Porche; (2nd from back) Meghan Blaha, Julia Martinez, Lexie Celis; (2nd from front) Ariana Romo, Sarah Gonzales; and (front) Mariah Montoya.
