Lobo Girls Soccer Trio Sign Letters of Intent

Lobo Girls Soccer Trio Sign Letters of Intent

In a celebration of athletic excellence, three Lehman High School Lady Lobos Soccer team members signed collegiate letters of intent yesterday! Maya Erwin (Austin College), Jamie Vargas (Southwestern), and Neftalie Mercado (Huston-Tillotson) signed their letters in the Lobo Blue Gym, surrounded by their families and friends. Coach Nauri Garcia officiated the ceremony, reminding younger girls in the program of what hard work and dedication could mean to their future. Garcia has offered notes on each girl, as follows:

Neftalie Mercado -  A "one in a million" type of player, she always wants the ball at her feet and it's very difficult to take it from her once she possesses it. She has a very dangerous cannon for a shot and she's scored significant goals for our program. She is a charming young lady, very humble, and she works hard on the field!

Jamie Vargas - Lehman's most dangerous passer, Jamie has the ability to play several positions. Her dominant place was on the right wing. Her crosses and diagonal passes were our team's strength the last four years.  A tremendous open field dribbler who a shoot when given the chance, Jamie was a 2016 2nd Team All District and I'm sure she'll be recognized this season as a senior. She was Academic All-District four consecutive years and she leaves Lehman as its all-time assist leader with 36!

Maya Erwin - The most decorated player Lehman Lady Lobos Soccer history, Maya has been 1st Team All-District four consecutive years, as well as Academic All-District all of those years. She was District 26-4A "Newcomer of the Year" (2014), District 14-6A "Goal Keeper of the Year" (2015), and District 14-6A "Most Valuable Player." This year's awards aren't out yet but, like Jamie, I think she'll be recognized for her play. Maya also won LHS Lady Lobo Soccer Team MVP (2014, 2016). I've coached many players and few improve during their senior year Maya is the exception--she evolved. Her determination, leadership, and passion for her teammates and the game of soccer keeps her reaching for her pinnacle of success!"

I'm going to miss all three ladies. Each one has bee a part of my life for the last four years and I have seen them grow to be outstanding human beings. I am proud of their accomplishment and I expect to see great things from them!
