Welcome to the past.

Cato Story:

Using information from the primary source below, write Cato's story.  Include in your story: Cato's life as a slave, Cato's attempts to run away, and Cato's future.  Your story should be a mixture of history and fiction (we call this historical fiction).  Historic details provided in the source must be included and cannot be changed.  All other details (including what you think happened to Cato after this ad was placed in the newspaper) should be your unique and creative thoughts.

Strange Red Cow. Sara Bader. Clarkson Potter/Publishers, New York.  2005

RUN away, last Thursday, from Philip Syng, of this city, silversmith, a Negroe man, named Cato, about 20 years old, a short, well-set fellow, and speaks good English:  Had on when he went away two jackets, the uppermost a dark blue halfthick, lined with red flannel, without lining, ozenbrigs shirt, old leather breeches, yarn stockings, old shoes, and an old beaver had. When he went away he had irons on his legs, and about his neck, but probably has cut them off, as he has done several times before on the like occasion; he generally skulks around this City.  Whoever brings him home, shall have Twenty Shillings reward, and reasonable charges, paid by
